I grew up in the middle of the country - Missouri, Texas, and Nebraska. As an undergrad, I went to Gustavus Adolphus College in southern Minnesota, where I saw my first neural recording and fell in love with electrophysiology. I went to graduate school at Washington University in St. Louis, where I trained as a systems neuroscientist studying hindbrain motor circuits. As a postdoc at Cornell, I wanted to understand how these neural circuits were formed. Now, I combine electrophysiology, transgenics, and imaging to study neural circuit function in the context of normal and abnormal development. When I'm not in the lab, I can be found walking near the San Gabriel River, volunteering at the library, or working on my latest crochet project.
